When using the "Altmetric mentions during" filter in the advanced search, you'll now see a handy count of recent mentions directly displayed for the top research outputs.

Why is this useful? This new feature gives you a quick and easy way to understand the recent buzz around a research output. Right under the title and basic information, you'll see the number of mentions it has received within your selected timeframe (e.g., last 6 months). This helps you immediately identify which papers are currently getting attention and generating discussion.

For example, if you've filtered for mentions in the last six months, the number shown will reflect the mentions collected during that specific period that contributed to the output's overall Altmetric score.

Understanding the Data: It's important to remember that the main Altmetric score still represents the total weighted attention the output has received across all time. This new mention count for your filtered timeframe provides valuable context to that overall score, highlighting recent activity.

Note on Sorting: You might occasionally see a top-ranked output (based on its total Altmetric score) that doesn't have the highest number of recent mentions. This is because the list is still sorted by the overall Altmetric score, which considers the value and source of all mentions over time. The recent mention count simply provides an additional layer of insight into current activity.

Explore Recent Activity Further: You can also find a similar view and the ability to sort by recent mentions within your chosen timeframe on the Outputs tab. This allows you to directly see which outputs have received the most mentions within your specified period.
