1. What's new?

Sentiment Analysis data for social media mentions (from X and Bluesky) is now available in two additional places: the Altmetric Explorer API and the Altmetric on Google BigQuery (GBQ) dataset.

2. Value and user impact

Take sentiment data further: You can now export sentiment scores directly from the Explorer API or query them in BigQuery alongside the rest of your Altmetric data, making it easier to build custom reports, dashboards, and analyses that go beyond what's available in the Explorer UI.

Two new access points:

  • Explorer API — sentiment is now included in API exports from both the Mentions tab (sentiment analysis for each mention) and the Research Outputs tab (aggregated sentiment analysis for each research output).

  • Google BigQuery — If you use the Altmetric GBQ dataset for large-scale analysis, sentiment data is now available to query directly: sentiment scores are now a top-level field in the altmetric.data.posts table.

3. How to access the data

  • Explorer API — sentiment data is included automatically in existing API exports from the Mentions and Research Outputs tabs. No changes to your integration are required. Full schema documentation is available in the Explorer API docs.

  • Google BigQuery — sentiment scores are now available to users with an Altmetric on GBQ subscription. See our documentation for field definitions and example queries.
