Track research mentions in seminars with Altmetric!

1. What's new?

We’re always working to expand the ways our users can track research conversations and attention, and we’re excited to announce our newest attention source: as of 14 September 2026, Altmetric is tracking mentions from research seminars, in partnership with Cassyni.

2. Value and user impact

Traditional metrics and citations only tell part of the story. Increasingly, journals, societies and university departments record and publish the talks that accompany new papers, and Cassyni has built the world's largest freely accessible, fully searchable library of these research seminars.

Here's what this means to Altmetric users:

Stay ahead in a shifting landscape: As platforms evolve, Altmetric ensures you're always capturing where meaningful conversations about research are happening.

A broader view of research influence: Mentions in seminars travel faster than citations, and capture connections between papers that other sources miss. Adding this dimension provides a more complete perspective of attention data.

Report with confidence: Seminar attention adds another layer of evidence to your impact story, helping you build a more complete, credible view of research influence when reporting to leadership and stakeholders.

There is also a second dimension to this launch: Cassyni seminars are themselves indexed as research outputs, each with its own Crossref DOI. That means every Cassyni talk now accrues its own Altmetric Attention Score too, so you can track attention to a seminar itself, not just to the papers it references.

3. Where will attention from seminars be available?

We are tracking attention from seminars across all areas of our product.

Attention to individual research outputs in Details Pages

Attention from seminars also contributes to the Altmetric Attention Score, with a score of 3 per seminar series mentioning the research output.

Tools for further data analysis

Data on the attention we track from seminars is available in:

• Altmetric API

• Altmetric GBQ dataset

• Scientometric Research Access to Data Program

4. Features available at launch

We are tracking research mentions from seminars that meet these conditions:

• At least one research output is referenced in the seminar's references section on Cassyni

• The seminar has already taken place

Due to technical limitations, we will not be able to track:

• Research mentions in the audio or video content of the seminar recording itself

• Research mentions from scheduled, future-dated seminars; while future seminars are visible on Cassyni, we will start tracking mentions from these from their broadcasting date onwards.
